Clipsal Solar’s Pulse App has won the prestigious Good Design Award Gold Accolade in the Digital Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.
Designed in Australia, Pulse is an app that helps everyday Australians harness the power of energy data in the home and make better energy choices. The app has been recognised for excellence in design, using integrated IoT sensors to allow the user to easily monitor and control solar production, battery storage and consumption.
Pulse has the ability to articulate when and where homeowners use the most electricity — and what it’s costing them by using personalised data-driven insights to help the customer save on electricity bills in real time.
The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced today during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week, which attracted a record number of submissions with 933 design projects evaluated by more than 70 Australian and international Jurors. Dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards are Australia’s highest honour for design and innovation.
Speaking on the win, Chief Executive Officer at Clipsal Solar Tracy Richardson said, “We are thrilled to be the first home energy management app in Australia to win a Good Design Award for customer-facing technology.”
Ms Richardson continues, “We’re seeing the powerful benefits the Pulse app has every day for homeowners. To date we have saved our customers close to a million dollars and there’s much more to come.

So that many more Australians can benefit from having Pulse in their home and hands.”

Clipsal Solar began as a start-up backed by Schneider Electric’s corporate venture arm.
The Good Design Awards Jury commented, “Does the app answer the most important questions: how self-sufficient is my house, with solar? How much am I saving? What is using the most energy in my home? And the answer is yes, yes and yes! Sensible dashboard with essential information, well-organised, easy-to-understand information, not to mention constantly updated display of readings. This demystifies and educates, updates and informs really well.

Off the back of the award win, Clipsal Solar will look to expand the customer base to those outside of its direct to customer business model, targeting all solar contractors to install the Pulse meter and onboard their customers with the Pulse app. Ultimately, Clipsal Solar aims to get Pulse App in the hands of tens of thousands of customers in the coming years as Australia closes in on 400,000 solar installations per year.
