Google Pixel 7 was a big hit last year and has stayed relevant for the past year. It comes in hot with its large 6.3-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen, great protection with its IP68 rating, fast Google Tensor G2 chipset, superb 50MP+12MP dual primary camera, great 11.1MP selfie camera, large 4700 mAh battery and 5G connectivity.

Now that is out of the way, let’s turn our attention to the upcoming Pixel 8, which is said to be launched on October 4th 2023. Meet the new Pixel phone, featuring the most advanced Pixel cameras yet and Google AI to help you do more, even faster.

  • 6.17-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio or ~427 ppi density
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • HDR10+
  • Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), aluminium frame
  • IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes)
  • Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2
  • Google Tensor G3 (4 nm) chipset, Nine-core (1x3.0 GHz Cortex-X3 & 4x2.45 GHz Cortex-A715 & 4x2.15 GHz Cortex-A510) processor, Immortalis-G715s MC10 graphics and 12GB RAM
  • Dual primary camera: 50MP with f/1.9 aperture, 25mm (wide), 1/1.31", 1.2µm, multi-directional PDAF, Laser AF and OIS + 12MP with f/2.2 aperture, 114˚ (ultrawide), 1/2.9", 1.25µm, Dual-LED flash, Pixel Shift, Auto-HDR and panorama
  • 10.8MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture, 21mm (ultrawide), 1/3.1", 1.22µm, Auto-HDR and panorama
  • 128GB/256GB internal storage with no expansion slot
  • Android 14 operating system
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4485 mAh battery with Fast charging 24W, Wireless charging 12, Reverse wireless charging and USB Power Delivery 3.0
  • Single Sim and 5G connectivity
  • October 4th, 2023 expected release date
  • 799 Euro or ~855 USD estimated price tag for the 128GB internal storage variant, 859 Euro or ~920 USD for the 256GB internal storage variant

The Pixel 8 will now come in with a slightly smallish 6.17-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen, high 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. This means that every moment you spend your time on the smartphone will be a great experience. In terms of protection, there’s nothing but the best with the Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back – and then there’s also the IP68 certification, which protects it well against harm and nature.

Under the hood of the Pixel 8 will be the latest Google Tensor 3 chipset, nine-core processor, high-end graphics, and a whopping 12GB RAM. You can be sure of some of the fastest performances and will have no problem running all the latest apps and games.

What’s the use of all the power, if you can’t have some fun with the camera aspects of it, right? Here, we find the Pixel 8 with a powerful 50MP+12MP dual primary camera loaded with all the bells and whistles.

Then there’s also the 10.8MP selfie camera completing the package.

Moving on to the storage side of things, you can choose 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, depending on your budget. But do choose wisely, as there’s no expansion slot. As the price difference isn’t that big, you might seriously consider the more significant option.

Regarding software, the Pixel 8 will be the first to come with the latest Android 14 operating system. That’s one of the benefits of going to a Google device, where you get to experience it before everyone else.

As for the battery, the 4485 mAh battery should be more than capable of supplying the necessary juice to power up the device for a good full day. But there might be a slight concern with its charging ability, as we now see it coming in with just a 24W fast charger.

Finally, only a single SIM slot is available, but I don’t think it will affect most users.

Conclusion:

Google Pixel 8 is the latest and greatest, a timely replacement for its predecessor. If you are already using the previous generation, there might not be enough incentives for you to upgrade. But for others who have yet to taste it, now might be the time for you to jump ship. However, the price is a little bit scary, as it’s a massive jump from last year.

Google Pixel 8 will be launched on 4th October 2023 and is said to carry a price tag of 799 Euro or ~855 USD for the 128GB internal storage variant, and 859 Euro or ~920 USD for the 256GB internal storage variant.
